Read the whole method first
Check the ingredient list against every step. Set aside ingredients that need separate preparation, and look for chilling, resting, soaking or marinating periods beyond the active cooking time. If a step calls for an ingredient that is not listed, stop and resolve the omission before starting.
Check quantities and equipment
Confirm the stated number of portions, pan size and oven type. Doubling ingredients does not necessarily double the cooking time; a crowded pan can change browning and a deeper baking dish changes the distance heat must travel. Treat the serving scaler as arithmetic, not a tested conversion for every pan.
Use ingredient labels for allergens
Stocks, sauces, spice blends and packaged garnishes may contain ingredients that are not obvious from their names. Read the actual labels and consider preparation surfaces. A recipe note is not an allergy certification. Use our substitution guide to understand what a swap changes.
Separate timing from safe doneness
A timer is a planning aid, not proof that food is cooked. Size, starting temperature and equipment change results. See our cooking basics and official food-safety sources for thermometer use and handling guidance. Never rely on an AI serving image to judge doneness.
Understand the nutrition panel
Nutrition is an estimate per listed portion. Unmeasured oil, salt, garnishes and product differences can change the result. Read the exclusions and our calculation method. These numbers are not laboratory measurements or personalised dietary advice.
Help improve a draft
If you notice an unclear instruction, include the recipe URL, ingredient and step number in a correction report. Describe the issue without sending personal health information. We do not mark a recipe kitchen-tested without an actual cooking record.
