Units are listed with each ingredient. 1 tbsp = 15 ml; 1 tsp = 5 ml. US cup measures are approximately 240 ml. Chef adaptations may retain source units. Scaling changes quantities, not cooking times. Ingredient ticks reset when the page reloads.

Let’s make it.

  1. Line a 20 cm square tin. Melt 60 g butter, mix with crumbs, coconut and cocoa and press firmly into the tin. Chill.
  2. Beat remaining 40 g softened butter with icing sugar, milk and vanilla until smooth. Spread over the base and chill one hour.
  3. Melt chocolate gently in a heatproof bowl over barely simmering water, keeping water out. Cool slightly and spread over filling.
  4. Chill until set, then slice into 12 bars with a warm knife. Keep refrigerated.

A little kitchen note

An egg-free vanilla-buttercream adaptation rather than a traditional custard-powder filling. Allow two hours chilling.

Allergen notes

Wheat, milk, coconut; check chocolate. This list is a starting point, not a certification of suitability. Check every ingredient label and preparation surface.

Use a food thermometer where relevant. For handling and storage, see our cooking basics and official food-safety links.
